What have the people of Stirchley done to unite the country?

  1. Hosted events and built community at Stirchley United Working Men’s Club.
  2. Supported our long-established businesses (Stirchley Carpets, Fallon & Sons, Rikfit Tyres, Stirchley Clothing Alterations, Stirchley Wine and Spirits, Akrams Restaurant and many more)
  3. Celebrated the history of Stirchley, collated local history and contributed to resources in the library (Stirchley History Group)
  4. Cleaned up Stirchley’s litter (Community Litter Pickers)
  5. Hosted coffee mornings to reduce loneliness (Stirchley Circle 22)
  6. Set up a community hub where everyone is welcome and you pay what you can for refreshments (Pineapple House)
  7. Set up a dementia friendly arts charity where you pay what you can for weekly arts activities (Leaf Arts)
  8. Restored an old building and used it to put on a variety of community activities (Stirchley Baths)
  9. Successfully fought to keep our library open (Stirchley Library)
  10. Established a volunteer network to keep the library open for longer (Friends of Stirchley Library)

  12. Opened new independent businesses to put more money back into the High Street economy (Caneat Cafe, Chancers Cafe, Stir Stores, Alicias Bakery and many more)
  13. Run bars and pubs that keep the high street lively and safe. Licensed spaces like Artefact, Cork and Cage, Bournbrook Inn, the British Oak etc are legally obligated to create the conditions to reduce and report anti-social behaviour.
  14. Put Stirchley on the map - it has now been named as the best place to live in the Midlands (The Sunday Times)
  15. Created affordable housing in a resident-owned building (Stirchley Community Development)
  16. Run annual Stirchley Games event for community (Hipkiss and Graney)
  17. Planted apple trees, flowers and berries and cleared up the River Rea (Fruit and Nut Village and Friends of the River Rea)
  18. Put on free children’s activities in the holidays (Friends of the River Rea)
  19. Put on Stay and Plays for babies and parents (Ascension Stirchley, St Andrews, Stirchley Community Church, Stirchley Grace Church)
  20. Put on youth clubs for our teenagers (Stirchley Community Church and Ascension Stirchley)
  21. Opened co-operative run initiatives (Loaf Bakery, Birmingham Bike Foundry and Artefact) which give back to the community in so many ways
  22. Hosted awards evenings to celebrate those in the community (Stirchley Community Church)
  23. Hosted a Stirchley Community Market to support traders in the area
  24. Put on jobs fairs to increase employment in the area (Stirchley Jobs Fair)
  25. Set up a community-led cinema to give free and affordable entertainment to children and families (Stirchley Community Cinema)

  27. Contributed to a 50p charity bookshelf in Morrisons
