WHO WE ARE
A community’s identity is forged through the daily cultivation of compassion, kindness and mutual respect, not through flags being hung up everywhere by people who don’t even live there, people who have ulterior and sinister motives. We are residents of Stirchley who have come together to affirm this principle and to challenge a campaign that threatens the fabric of our neighbourhood. This page outlines who we are, what we stand for, and why we have united to protect the inclusive spirit of our community.
Our group is a reflection of the true, rich diversity of Stirchley. Some of us are new to the area, drawn by its vibrant character, while others have lived here their entire lives, contributing to the generations of history that make this place special. Our members come from a wide range of professions; we work in the public and private sectors, in academia, and in the skilled trades that keep our city running. We come from a variety of racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds, embodying the modern, multicultural reality of our community.
What brings this diverse collection of neighbours together is a single, unifying purpose: the shared conviction that the organisation 'Raise the Colours' must stop its campaign of putting up flags throughout our community.
Our opposition is not to patriotism or to any national symbol. It is a direct response to the specific, harmful methods and the documented extremist ideology that underpins the 'Raise the Colours' campaign.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
True community strength is not found in the uniform, top-down imposition of flags, but in the everyday interactions, mutual support, and shared local goals of its diverse residents. Our vision for Stirchley is one where unity is actively built from the ground up, reflecting the values we live by every day. We actively build our community's strength by rejecting their politics of fear and investing in genuine connection.
- Shared Spaces and Local Action: Our pride comes from working together on the tangible issues that affect all of us—from keeping our parks clean to supporting our local businesses and schools. This collaborative work builds a counter-narrative to division and fosters a real sense of collective ownership and belonging.
- Mutual Respect and Understanding: The foundation of a resilient and welcoming community is the simple act of being good neighbours. It is the conversations over fences, the helping hands offered freely, and the daily interactions between people from different walks of life—across professions, races, and religions—that build unbreakable bonds.
- Creative and Positive Expression: Stirchley chooses to respond to division with creativity, inclusivity, and a message of peace. We believe in expressing our identity through actions that bring people together, not through symbols co-opted to drive them apart.
Our strength as a community lies in our diversity and our shared commitment to building a place where every single person feels safe, welcome, and valued. We reject the politics of fear and intimidation. Join us in replacing divisive symbols with daily acts of connection, and in building a Stirchley defined not by imposed flags, but by the strength of its diverse and united people.
